Experience Norfolk Island like never before on our famous Island Fish Fry!

The Norfolk Island Fish Fry is by far the most popular event for visitors and locals alike, and for good reason.

Just ask anyone what you need to tick off when you come to Norfolk island - they’ll say the Island Fish Fry!

The original Norfolk Island Fish Fry, this fantastic event has been operating for over 40 years. Take this opportunity to dive into the culture of the Island - meet the locals, eat traditional dishes, listen to live music and take in the stunning sunset. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed!

Making our way to Orn Dar Cliff

Start the tour by hopping on one of our tour buses at our office in Burnt Pine - or if you would rather, drive your own car and follow us! Take in the rolling green hills and towering pines as we cruise on up to our exclusive Western Side property, ‘Orn Dar Cliff’.

As you get off the bus you are not only met by the smiling faces of locals and our team, but by the breathtaking view of the South Pacific Ocean which stretches as far as the eye can see - and then some.

When you finally manage to take your eyes off the view, you’ll notice the exceptional feast laid out - ready to be eaten!

Eat, Sing, Dance

A table full of traditional dishes and salads including ‘Pilhi’ - a savoury banana slice, a special sweet potato dish called ‘Ana’, coconut bread, coconut pie for dessert and of course - the staple of the meal - fresh, mouth watering, fried fish!

While you sit and eat you will be met by a local from the island who shares the stories of Norfolk through music and songs, sung in both English and their native tongue.

The evening’s activities are completed by local entertainment from the Baunti Byuutis dancing group - meaning Bounty Beauties in the Norfolk language. The girls present a traditional routine based on the beautiful, flowing Tahitian movements.

Sit back and enjoy the performance from the audience, or show off your dancing skills and join in as they teach you the moves.

Our purpose-built covered deck means that the show will go on no matter the weather - perfect for those chillier months or wet days when you still want to experience everything this tour has to offer - but don’t want to be exposed to the elements!

A sunset you won’t forget

As this is all going on, the sun begins to set, gifting you another spectacular performance unique to this gorgeous island.

While we can’t always guarantee a perfect sunset (we wish we could!), if you're lucky enough to visit the cliff on a clear night, you’ll witness the sun paint the sky in the most beautiful pinks and oranges you’ve ever seen.

A personal note

If there’s one tip I could give you - it’s to take a moment while on this tour and really absorb all the amazing things happening around you.

My family and I have been coming to Norfolk Island for New Years on and off for the past 15 years, even before we bought Pinetree Tours, and I can genuinely say there is nothing quite like this tour.

Each year we would partake in the Fish Fry tour and every time I was blown away by the beauty and the sense of community I felt while there. Watching as our family grew as we took a photo each year we were there in front of the Sunset at the Fish Fry. This is honestly one of the most special memories I have - reflecting and thinking about what the next year will hold.

There’s something really special about eating the traditional island dishes, listening to the live music and watching the Baunti Byuutis perform while the sun sets, that just can’t be experienced on any other tour.  (Watching my husband and daughter try to be as graceful as the island dancers, is another highlight and worth every cent!!!)

Perhaps it’s the fact that the sun sets over the ocean, a novelty that most Australians never see, but one you’ll never forget.

Whatever it is, be prepared to eat, laugh, dance and reflect.

Come and See for Yourself

Overall, while the Island Fish Fry tour is largely based around the food served, it is more about what that food represents. It’s about the people, the culture, the land and the sense of belonging you feel while on this tour.
