Traditional Island Dinner
Step into the warm hospitality of Jimbo & Lou and enjoy an unforgettable evening of traditional island food, storytelling and culture at their beautiful home on Taveners Farm.
Your night begins with a welcome drink (wine or juice/water) as you settle in and meet your hosts. Jimbo & Lou will share a heartfelt introduction to their family land, island heritage and way of life, setting the scene for a truly authentic Norfolk Island experience.
Soon after, you’ll be invited to enjoy a mouth-watering smorgasbord dinner featuring a generous spread of traditional dishes, hot selections, meats, fish and fresh salads — a true island savoury feast. Much of the seasonal produce is grown right on their farm, and Lou is renowned across the island for her exceptional cooking and traditional flavours.
As you dine, Jimbo will share insights into the history and traditions of island food, including influences passed down from Tahitian foremothers, the challenges of island shipping and supply, and the importance of farming and food preservation for the future of Norfolk Island.
After your main meal, treat yourself to a delicious selection of homemade desserts, with tea and coffee also available. Guests can also purchase a locally made guava liqueur, with profits supporting a local charity.
To complete the evening, Lou will introduce you to the fascinating Norf’k Language — its origins, how it is taught in schools, and the efforts being made to preserve it for future generations. Lou and Jimbo are fluent speakers, and you’ll finish with a fun and memorable short Norf’k skit performed especially for guests.
A beautiful combination of food, culture and connection — this is a Norfolk Island evening you won’t forget.
